Where We Work

The Revil Foundation reinvests in neighborhoods that capital walked away from. We start in West Louisville, where a redlined map from 1937, an expressway built to divide a city, and decades of demolition left a sixteen year gap in life expectancy inside a single county. We buy homes, we rehab them, we hold them, and we keep the value where it belongs

WHERE WE WORK

Louisville, Kentucky. Starting west of Ninth Street.

The Revil Foundation reinvests in neighborhoods that capital has walked away from. Our work begins in Louisville, Kentucky, and it is concentrated in West Louisville, where the gap betweenwhat a neighborhood has and what it was owed is measured in decades.

Why West Louisville

Roughly 60,000 people live west of Ninth Street. They are served by two or three full service grocers. Two thirds of Louisville households without a car live more than a mile from one, and the corner stores that fill the gap sell food at prices well above the national standard.
The distance shows up in years. A resident west of Ninth Street can expect to live to about 65. A resident in eastern Jefferson County can expect to live to about 81. Sixteen years, inside the same county line, along the same bus route.
None of this happened by accident. Federal maps drew red lines around these neighborhoods in 1937 and told lenders not to invest. Ninth Street was widened into an expressway in the 1950s for the express purpose of separating downtown from the West End. Urban renewal leveled Walnut Street, once the heart of Black business and music in this city, and cleared more than a hundred city blocks over the next twenty years. Highway construction alone demolished hundreds of buildings and displaced the families inside them.

The disinvestment was engineered. The reinvestment has to be, too.

What we do here

The Revil Foundation acquires and rehabilitates housing in West Louisville. Single family homes, duplexes, and apartment buildings. We hold what we build, we keep it in the neighborhood, and we put the revenue back into the next property rather than into a distant balance sheet.

We are not here to announce a project and leave. This city has watched large developments collapse at the anchor stage before, and residents have earned every bit of their skepticism. Our answer is ownership, presence, and a track record built one property at a time

Beyond Louisville

West Louisville is where we start, not where we stop. The Revil Foundation is built to work anywhere a community has been written off. What we prove here is meant to travel.
